Celebrating Mother Earth: Dia Del Rio celebration in its 15th year

Local students decided to wake up early on this Saturday morning, to give back to mother earth. The kids spent the day over at the L.C.C. Environmental Science Center for the 15th Annual Dia Del Rio Celebration. Everyone showed up early with gardening tools in hand to help add mulch and do a little trimming at the Paso Del Indio Trail--which is Laredo's oldest nature trail. The Greenhouse also got a much needed facelift. Volunteers were also treated to lunch for their efforts. Students say they don't mind spending some time outdoors. Graciela Torres, a student volunteer, says, "I feel really special helping here and being a part of nature. I have fun helping the planet still keep green." Dia Del Rio is observed on both sides of the border to encourage communities along the river to improve their surroundings.
