Laredoans Celebrate Earth Day

It's a day 4.6 billion years in the making. On Wednesday, people across the planet celebrated Mother Earth.
Here in Laredo, students learned about the ecosystem, picked up trash, and planted trees.

Melissa Cigarroa, of the Imaginarium of South Texas says, “We need to become stewards of the environment, and the way we do that is to teach kids to take care of their natural resources.”

Children at the Imaginarium got a visit from a park ranger to learn about their surrounding ecosystem.

Other Laredo children did their part by cleaning the streets, and helping plant trees.

Parents and kids got their share of the fun, by exchanging plastic bags for re-usable green bags, it's the second time heb's across the state do so.

Last year HEB gave away 150,000 reusable bags. This year, they plan to give away 300,000 of the green bags.
Overall, the green light for a greener earth was taken Wednesday, and will continue every April 22nd for generations to come.
