For an entire month, Auburn University students living on-campus are competing to see which residence hall can conserve the most water, electricity, and who can increase recycling. "I pledged not to shower for a whole month. I've been using dry shampoo and everything," said one student.
This is the third year for the Sustain-A-Bowl on campus. The event last the whole month of February and is meant to teach students living on campus to conserve resources while promoting environmental awareness. "I've been helping out other residence by taking out their recycling containers. This is really important to me," said another student.
The friendly competition has saved the university more than $20,000 in the past two years combined. The university even put recycling centers near the dumpster to help make recycling easier. "It's right there. How can you now recycle. I do it everyday to help not only the environment, but also our campus," said Allan Mudwilder.
Auburn housing will crown three winners for each housing area and for some come March, a hot shower may do some good.
The Sustain-A-Bowl hopes to spread the competition to other buildings and offices throughout
