Muscogee County Sheriff John Darr began his commitment to switching his fleet of department vehicles from conventional gasoline to cleaner-burning domestically produced propane Autogas in October. It's something he believe he owes to taxpayers.
"I think it's the responsibility as sheriff to find innovative ways to save tax payers money. This is one of the ways we thought would be more beneficial and we're kind of doing the pilot program" Darr said.
"It's working well. You just have to use the key to punch in your mileage code. It's just like filling up gas and it works fine" Earl Osbon said.
The Sheriffs Office started out by converting 20 vehicles. Darr says he plans to convert more vehicles to Autogas over time.
"Having the conversions done on the vehicle to getting the people trained on looking at the vehicles and fixing them. Overall though, it's done real well" Darr explained.
