Harris County looks greener thanks to the fourth grade class at New Mountain Hill Elementary School. All 22 students contributed to the brand new Community Recycling Center which fourth grade teacher Pam Wetherington has used as part of her daily lesson plans.
"The students have done research and math problems with our data. We've also picked up recycling across the school to take it to Callaway Gardens. Now we don't have to take it there because we have this recycling center," Wetherington said.
"We're trying to keep recycling items out of the landfills because animals can eat them and it can kill them," Abby Hanner said.
And that's just one of the lessons each of these fourth grader is taking away from this experience.
"I've learned that the U.S. is the leading trash producer; even more then China which has more people" Cayden Sturges explained.
"I've learned recycling is not only good, but also fun and great" said Brawner Rai.
