October Community Green Winner

Reagan Parrish loves animals, she has 15.

“A turtle named Einstein, a lot of fish,” said Parrish.

At just eight-years-old Reagan has a big heart, and she’s on a mission. This school year she started a project called Ruff, rugs for our furry friends.

“There are animals at Paws that are waiting for their future homes. I thought they might need rugs, things and supplies for that too,” said Parrish.

The idea was mom’s, Reagan's second grade teacher, Mrs. Childress made it reality. Together the two make up quite the team.

“It built on, both of us loving animals and working with Paws,” said Childress. “She would take things over to Paws, and I help Paws sometimes."

The duo collects blankets, carpets and kennels, so far they 500 items. Reagan's goal is 1,000.

“I find stuff in my room that I don't need, and I put up flyers in posters in the neighborhood,” said Parrish.

“She has done most of it herself,” said Childress. “She delivers the stuff to my room to where the children in the school are contributing can bring it to my room. Reagan and mom come by and pick it up in the afternoons. "

In addition to collecting the basics for animals, Reagan spends countless hours at Paws, even if it’s just hanging out with the animals.

“I go in the back sometimes and get the rugs and stuff,” she said. I also get toys that I have too and give them to the animals, and they just love it."

Right now Paws has 60 animals up for adoption. Reagan wants to make sure these waiting furry friends have the best.

“With the economy so many of the contributions are down, and the animals are suffering even more than the humans are,” said Childress.

Helping those that can't help themselves, one blanket at a time.
